Argentine Senate: Legitimizes Same-Sex Marriage-On Wednesday, the proposed bill in the legalization of gay marriage was officially approved. After 14 hours of heated debate, the Senate has approved the bill with 6 votes.

Argentina is the first country in Latin America who adopted the same-sex marriage considering that 91 percent of the population is Catholic. But the bill had met vehement opposition from Catholic Church and other religious groups.

On Sunday, the archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, asserted that it is a “destructive attack on God’s plan.”
Back on Tuesday, protests and demonstrations have scattered along the streets with signs reading, “the children have a right to a mother and a father.”

One of the protesters said, “I came to defend marriage between man and woman, because I think any attempt against this is an attempt against natural law.”

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner had stated that she wouldn’t veto the bill if it reached her office.
