We were expecting a Google Doodle of Super Mario last June 1 and maybe that will be for next year. As for today’s Google Doodle that you see on your Google.com homepage, The Google Doodle of a Hologram is dedicated to the father of holography Dennis Gabor, who was born on June 5, 1900.
Dennis Gabor is a a British-Hungarian Jewish electrical engineer and inventor, most notable for inventing holography, for which he later received the 1971 Nobel Prize in Physics. With his studies in the input and output of electrons, he was then led to the invention and discovery of Holography.
Holography is a technique that allows the light scattered from an object to be recorded and later reconstructed so that it appears as if the object is in the same position, basically an illusion. Nowadays, the use of Holography is used to optically store, retrieve, and process information. We can thank Dennis Gabor for those things.
The use of holograms today are applied in terms of security from forgery in verifying credit cards, bank notes. Museums containing precious items from history also actively use holograms. There are also many uses of holograms in theme parks lately, enabling people to see places without the need for travel. Isn’t what Dennis Gabor brought us very awesome just like IMAX 3D? Happy 110th Birthday to Dennis Gabor!
